We all make mistakes that our audience can misunderstand. However, shouldn't your CEO (and your PR team) know better than to use a phrase like "dynamic pricing," which does make the mind go to the logical point of surge pricing? Degrees might give you credibility in certain fields. But they cost you a ton of time (and money). Instead of spending the next 2 years getting an MBA in marketing, I can explain everything you need to know about storytelling for brands in 3 points.1. Make it emotionalThe best brands don’t focus on FEATURES, they focus on FEELINGS. What was the last Budweiser superbowl commercial that talked about how great tasting their beer was?I’ll wait…2. Make it personalWe struggle to fully conceptualize the results of large quantities. Hearing 40 million people died during the plague vs 50 million doesn’t mean that much when we hear it (weird, I know). But if you focus on ONE family, the daughter of Mrs. Shepherd, who was walking home from school and stopped to help a man starving on the street, we’re able to see it more clearly. To go MACRO, go MICRO. 3. Make MarmiteI didn’t fully realize how much people loved this stuff until I went abroad and saw people FLYING with it. What?If you’ve never had Marmite, keep it that way lol. It’s this absolutely disgusting spread that people eat like jam on all types of crackers, toasts, breads, etc. I (obviously) can’t stand it. If it’s nearby I get repulsed. But those who love it?REALLY like it. They say when you try to be for everyone you’re actually for no one. Take a stand. Be bold. When people start flying with your product wrapped in little baggies stuffed in their carry-on bags for fear of being separated from it, you know you’re doing something right.

This post may trigger some people...But, I don't drink Coffee!!!You read that right, I don't drink Coffee.I do drink water filtered through fresh roasted and medium ground seeds from the arabica plant.I find this method of filtering water gives the water a rich, full-bodied flavor you don't get when filtering through other means. WHY I LEFT DODO PIZZAEarlier this year, Fedor Ovchinnikov stepped down from his CEO position at Dodo Brands and this powerful infomercial took me back 4 years to when I myself made the decision to leave this great company.I've always been a project manager and I get fired up by big challenges, so even when I was hired I worked on implementing projects rather than maintaining processes. While working at Dodo, Artur Bogdanov and I built first a regional Internet marketing system, then a federal Internet marketing system, then together with the team we created a personalized marketing system, a federal system of promotions and discounts, and the concept of a new loyalty program.To keep me motivated I was looking for new challenges for myself within the company, but by the end of 2018 I realized that something wasn't adding up. I remember a turning point in my mind when I did a simple exercise: I wrote out what I wanted in life, where to live, how much to earn, what to do, where to visit, what to try. And then I clearly realized the strategic gap between my work at Dodo and my picture of the future.And even then I realized that I wanted, first, to continue improving in marketing, and second, to share my knowledge with people. Importance of TaglinesFor those of you wondering, "What is a tagline?" here is the definition: it is a memorable motto or phrase that is usually designed to serve as an expression of your company's greater purpose or mission.Essentially a company tagline is their primary advertising slogan.Most companies have only one tagline but it is possible to have more than one. My coaching business has 3 taglines and I rotate their usage depending upon which one I want to emphasize at any given time.They are:*We Help Businesses Grow*Train | Play | Win | Repeat*Making 1000 Muti-MillionairesAll three of these taglines simply and clearly define what we do as as a business.Most companies only have one tagline and they keep that tagline throughout the life of their business.Other companies rotate taglines or change taglines periodically to give their brand a fresh appeal.For example, Coca-Cola has had at least 60 taglines in the life of their company. Everyone can tell you one thing about Coors Light: it’s cold. It’s not by accident. They focus RELENTLESSLY on the message of “cold.” The in-store displays say that the beer is “cold filtered,” “cold lagered,” and “cold packaged.” The loyalty program promises “chill prizes.” And of course, the cans turn blue when they’re cold. (At one point, they even featured “2-Stage Cold Activation.”) The first time I realized this—that every single Coors Light marketing effort is just an iteration on the same one-word idea—I thought it was overly simplistic. Now I realize how brilliant it is. Even Coors Light, with its enormous marketing budget, only expects consumers to remember *one thing* about the product. And I think you should do the same.“But Neil,” you’re probably thinking, “I could never focus on just one thing. My product is far more complex and sophisticated than mere light beer.” That’s true. But it’s also far less interesting. You have to fight 10x harder, with one one-hundredth of the resources, to get people to care about what you do.So what if you put all those resources towards owning one key message?
