Critics Consensus

Amanda Bynes is charming, but Sydney White is a poorly adapted take on Snow White, relying on tired ethnic stereotypes laughs.

Sasha T It was a good movie, and I would watch it again although there were a few problems. The stigma of the 'minorities' were hard to watch. At the end, when she starts talking about how were all dorks I cringed internally. Good movie, hard watch a few scenes. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Really good watch, would watch again, and can recommend.A modern day re-telling of Snow White. Not an easy task to get a modern ensemble cast to be significant, but they do a good job for the characters being mostly socially awkward societal rejects.Amanda Bynes pretty much carries the movie, but that's to be expected from a Snow White. The fun twist is they went with a "vs the rich" trope against greek row instead of her being princess-like.The movie is a lot of fun, and Amanda Bynes does a great job of competitive girl on the social battlefield as does Sarah Paxton. Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie is supposed to be based on "Snow White" the telltale, but in reality it is a failed attempt to retell the story, by itself the movie does not bring anything new anywhere, all the situations and characters are an adaptation created just an only to serve this "magic reality" trying to be something more contemporary. The actors did not even try to appear young people from college and it´s performance is forced to say the least, they lack of a sense of real identity and for the main character, he does not even is so important nor is well described on the story, his only trope is being different to others and the same is applied to the relationships we are presented in the movie. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review steve d dull update that struggles to find any laughs. Rated 2/5 Stars • Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Intrigued by the modern teenage, humorous retelling of Snow White with Bynes nicely fulfilling the role's innocence with a solid message that stretches further, but the tale contradicts itself when countering clichés only to nastily, or rather pathetically without dignified sense, be one despite the barely minimal satisfactory. (B-) Rated 3/5 Stars • Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It might have been better if it didn't try to do a take on Snow White. The way the 'dwarfs' were portrayed was just ridiculous. It might have meant well, but it ended up being pretty lame.
