A native of Cramerton, he was the son of Stella Drum Lineberger of Gastonia and the late Luther R.

Lineberger. He was a graduate of Belmont High School, Class of 1954, where he had played varsity football from 1950-1954. He went on to the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where he played football for three years until he was injured in his junior year season. On June 1, 1957, he married his former classmate, Beverly Jordan. He was the owner of Lineberger's Fish Fry, a business founded by his parents in 1948.

He was a member of New Hope Presbyterian Church, Gastonia, where he was a Deacon. He was inducted into the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame in September, 1993. Survivors, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Mrs. Beverly Jordan Lineberger; two sons, Mark Jordan Lineberger of Gastonia, NC and Wesley Ray Lineberger of Gatlinburg, TN; a daughter, Mrs. Paige Lineberger Ruff of Gastonia, NC; two brothers, Donald Reid Lineberger of Gastonia, NC and Commander L.

Truett Lineberger of Virginia Beach, VA; five grandchildren, Miss Michelle Lineberger, Mark Adam Lineberger, Travis Butler Ruff, Ashley Jordan Ruff, Courtney Shanton Lineberger, and a step grandson, Brian Myers. The funeral will be conducted by Dr. Brian D. Weger at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 13, 1994, at New Hope Presbyterian Church.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Elders of the church. The family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the residence.
